Erumely
the gateway of
Sabarimala

"Lord
Ayyappa promised Malikappurathamina that he would marry
her when no new devotees come to Sabarimala".
The custom
of the Pilgrimage is that all the Kanni Ayyappas (Those
who goes first time to Sabarimala Temple) have to come
to Erumely, and starts their pilgrimage by paying
respect to Vavar, the lieutenant of Lord Ayyappa. They
have to perform a colourful vigours war dance popularly
known as "Pettathullal" to celebrate the demolition of
Mahishi. |

Later they
proceeds to Sannidhanam with 'Erumudikkettu' on their
head and Ayyappa hymns on their lips. They move in two
ways: One through the traditional walking trail and
other through new N.H. which reduces the distance to
Sannidhanam by 45 kms. |
